How to Burp a Baby

Let Babies 411 show you how to burp your baby.

Make sure to burp your baby frequently during feeding.
A general guide for babies who do not spit up frequently would be to wait until the baby stops sucking from the bottle. Gas bubbles cause the sensation of being full.
Once a baby lets out a good burp, they usually continue eating.
Spitting up is usually caused by immaturity of the stomach muscles, and most babies outgrow it by 6 months of age.
If your baby tends to spit up frequently or has colic, try:
Burping your baby more frequently to reduce gas pain and reflux.
Have baby sit up for approximately 15-30 minutes after eating.
Check to see that the hole in the nipple is the right size. The bottle should drip a few drops when you hold it upside down and then stop.
Try to feed your baby before he/she becomes overly hungry. When babies are hungry, they tend to eat faster and gulp more air.
Try to make feeding calm and unhurried.
Hold in a semi-upright position when feeding.
